About

My family immigrated to Canada in the autumn of 1989, months prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall. I was born and raised in a small community in Germany that is similar to Princeton.

I grew up in North Vancouver surrounded by nature and wilderness. I attended Capilano College and Simon Fraser University to work towards a double major in Political Science and History. My studies provided me with an understanding about how people can shape the political landscape to create powerful change for the betterment of the community.

After attending post-secondary, I started working at Telus in 2008 where I focused on my career in project management and software development. I have continued to attain certifications and advance within the Technology Enablement sector. One of the reasons that I have stayed with Telus for nearly 15 years is I enjoy the challenge of continual learning.

All of this culminated in me seeking a richer life in a community that reflected the same values that I grew up with. Having friends that already owned property in Princeton, I was introduced to the natural beauty of the Similkameen Valley in 2014. I felt that I had come home and only made sense that I purchase my first house in Princeton.

In my free time,  I enjoy going on hikes with my rescue dog, Cinnamon, from Our Last Hope. She is always pushing me to go that extra mile, which probably is more for her than me (lol). I'm  an avid baker, a sourdough enthusiast, and  enjoy making homemade croissants, cakes, and desserts. I love cooking traditional German dishes, which can be challenging when cooking for one, but I also enjoy going out for Sushi, Indian and Chinese.  I  spend time throwing clay on my potters wheel to relax and partake other artistic expressions, such as encaustic. I try to read as much as possible, however I enjoy a night of Netflix once in awhile.

I am grateful for the community spirit and inclusion that I have experienced since moving here. I find it rewarding to volunteer at the Sunflower Gallery, and working with local artists on their exhibits & workshops. As the current Treasurer for the Princeton Community Arts Council , I have gained  insight into successful grant writing and understand the financial responsibilities involved in running a nonprofit  organization. I also volunteer at the Princeton Foodbank.  Being of service to the community brings me personal enrichment as the connections that I've made have been meaningful and rewarding.

And it is for this reason that I am seeking to be elected as a Town Councillor. I want to continue to be of service to a community that has persevered through so much in the last couple of years.

I am a steadfast believer in transparency and accountability which I believe is integral in all levels of Government. I want to be the voice for all that make Princeton their home and focus on community building. Adding to the livability of our great town and doing it honestly & responsibly.

I truly appreciate your consideration for me running for Town Council. I promise that I will always act in the best interest of the community!

Sincerely,
Arone Sheriland
